American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP)

The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP)’s vision is to provide and promote the highest possible standard of animal care, and to increase the quality of veterinary methods worldwide.

Overview:

The ABVP is an AVMA-recognized organization that undergoes a comprehensive evaluation every three years by the American Board of Veterinary Specialties to ensure that they are maintaining the required standards of membership. ABVP certification is available to practicing veterinarians that wish to hold themselves to a higher standard of specialist-level skills and knowledge, while taking part in a thorough and demanding certification process. These veterinarians will then have a common desire and willingness to provide superior and comprehensive veterinary care to the public, while demonstrating expertise in multiple clinical subjects.

Why is the ABVP important?

An ABVP certified practitioner will adhere to higher standards of practice and education and is set apart by being the most ambitious and committed professionals in veterinary care. In addition to higher wages, an AVP-certified veterinarian will also receive other benefits including networking opportunities, an ABVP Diplomate Kit, career resources, promotional listings, and discounts to certain subscriptions.
